Beta Alpha Psi
Founded in 1919, Beta Alpha Psi is a national honor organization for financial information students and professionals. The primary objective for the organization is to encourage and give recognition to scholastic and professional excellence in the business information field. This includes promoting the study and practice of accounting, finance, and information systems; providing opportunities for self-development, service, and association among members and practicing professionals, and encouraging a sense of ethical, social, and public responsibility.

EmblemThe emblem of Beta Alpha Psi denotes the promise of careers for financial information professionals. The rising sun signifies these professional positions as rising ever higher among economic activities. The crossed keys symbolize knowledge as a means of opening the doors of the financial world. The letters Beta, Alpha, and Psi denote scholarship, social responsibility, and practicality, respectively.

Beta Theta Chapter Structure
The President of the Beta Theta Chapter calls meetings and presides over the meetings of the Executive Board. He/She appoints members to positions as needed. The President directs the other members of the Executive Board in their duties in accordance with the International Constitution and National Bylaws. He/She seeks to promote the welfare of the chapter and the honorary fraternity. The President is also the chapter representative to the SMEAL College of Business 'Smeal Student Council' group, unless this role is designated to another student.
The Vice President of the Beta Theta Chapter assists the President in prescribed duties and acts in the President's place in event of his/her absence. In the event the office of President becomes vacant during the school year, the Vice President shall assume all duties and responsibilities of the President. The Vice President's main responsibility is to oversee the actions of the fall & spring new member classes. This includes overseeing the pledge class board as well guiding new members through the pledging process.
The Treasurer collects dues from members, pays fees owed to the national chapter, creates invoices, disburses money from the chapter for reimbursement, maintains appropriate financial records, arranges for the audit and prepares the chapter's tax return. The Treasurer works directly with Associated Student Activities (ASA) Financial Office to deposit, withdraw, or transfer funds from the chapter account. The Treasurer is also entrusted the responsibility to plan the trip to the national convention. His/Her duty is to present the case to the University Park Allocation Committee (UPAC) to receive funding for the annual trip.
The Reporting Secretary is in charge of keeping the attendance for the chapter. He/She works with the Vice President to determine the final pledge class. Other responsibilities for the position include keeping the chapter up to date with national requirements, ensuring remittance of pledge initiation, and chapter dues and making sure nationals are paid in accordance to chapter activities. He/She also has the responsibility of keeping the active membership records up to date for national purposes and maintaining contact with the corresponding secretary to ensure correct attendance to major events. The reporting secretary is also responsible for helping all other board members with any attendance issues. The reporting secretary requires extensive excel skills.
The Corresponding Secretary assists the President in planning the Fall Initiation & Alumni Event, Mock Interviews Pre-Night, Mock Interviews, and the Robert W. Koehler Spring Banquet. Moreover, the Corresponding Secretary communicates with members and pledges, professional firms, alumni and faculty/staff to plan and host these events. Additionally, he/she is responsible for sending letters of appreciation to those who present to the chapter, donate to the chapter, or positively influence the chapter in any capacity.
The Technology Chair of Beta Alpha Psi organizes excel presentations with firms on key excel skills for the pledges and active members of Beta Alpha Psi. These events allow students to walk away with knowledge in excel that will be helpful both in classes as well as in internships and full-time positions. Moreover, the events are aimed to teach members the skills that recruiters believe are essential for successfully transitioning from backpack to briefcase. The relationships with firms have been established and should be maintained.
The Compliance Officers have the authority to perform a test of controls in place for the Nittany Lion Fund. The compliance officers analyze the operations of an investment fund, understand the controls in place and conduct a monthly report to determine effectiveness of current controls. After performing a review of the monthly report, the compliance officers can make suggestion to the Nittany Lion Fund to improve controls. This duty requires two positions, a Senior Compliance Officer and a Compliance Officer.
The Director of Service Activities plans service events within the community for members and pledges. He/She promotes volunteerism within the chapter and ensures that the chapter meets the service activity requirements set forth by nationals. The relationships that have been established with charitable and nonprofit organizations that should be maintained include but are not limited to, the American Red Cross, A Million Thanks, Shaver's Creek (The Penn State Nature Center), and the Arboretum at Penn State. Additionally, he/she should constantly be looking for new opportunities to better serve the community.
The Director of Public Relations Beta Alpha Psi's social media accounts which include, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. These accounts serve as a way to promote member involvement and retention. He/She has the sole authority to update and maintain the chapter's website. Additionally, he/she fosters and grows the alumni network for the current members.
The THON Chair promotes and represents the Beta Theta Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi in Penn State's IFC/Panhellic Dance Marathon. He/She works to strengthen the relationship between the chapter and THON. Additionally, he/she works closely with the Accounting Society THON Chair throughout the year to organize three canning trips, which raise money for THON. This officer is also in charge of planning the Annual Beta Alpha Psi and Accounting Society THON Benefit Dinner. (THON is the largest student run philanthropic event in the United States raising money for the Four Diamonds Fund and cancer research.)
